CHAPTER ONE
1.1    INTRODUCTION
Online admission in Kwara State Polytechnic, is the topic of the project. Kwara State Polytechnic comprises of five institutes namely, institute of Basic and Applied Science (IBAS), Institute of Finance and Management Studies (IFMS), Institute of Technology (IOT), Institute of Environmental Studies (IES), Institute of Administration (IOA), both National and Higher National Diploma (ND and HND) programme.
Nowadays there are technological advancement in the world as the world is a global village as a result of this, the use of computer in all sectors makes student admission simple, easy and also eradicate all forms of error made by human being.
An internet based system will assist to reduce the problems of admission which is due to the large number of students seeking for admission into the polytechnic.
With the use of online there will be a proper presentation to the higher management, less labour and it also eliminate time wastage and enhance accuracy.
1.2    AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The importance of online admission process cannot be overemphasized, as a result of increasing number of students who applied into Kwara State Polytechnic yearly. The admission process encountered a lot of problems which determine the qualified and unqualified candidates for a particular course of study in a specified department and institute of the polytechnic.
The objectives of this project to minimize the problems encountered are as stipulated below:
i.    To reduce the problem of accumulated students forms
ii.    In order to keep record of applied and admitted students
iii.    To provide easy retrieval of a particular record
iv.    Availability of hostel allocation
v.    Given of matriculation number
1.3    SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
Due to the fact that maintaining, controlling and storing of students record which are being done manually are not efficient and effective, thus online admission system was introduced to reduce or eliminate the problem.
The significance of this study lies on the valuable contributions its makes to the area of the study.
1.4    METHODOLOGY
The admission office at the registry department of Kwara State Polytechnic was visited and enquiries were made about how they handle the admission into the institution. We also carried out interview about the existing manual system in order to determine the accuracy, efficiency and effectiveness of the current system of admission.
In this research work the method of data collection used is interview method i.e face to face interview as a result of the fact that questions were asked based on its relevance problems to this research work. The officer in charge took us through the process of how forms are been registered or sorted out departmentally and how such files are being maintained.
Based on the facts collected and analysis, online admission system was introduce based on its relevance to this research work.
1.5    SCOPE AND LIMITATION
This project work covers the National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programme of the Polytechnic but did not make attempts to other aspect of the institution such as postgraduate students.
